How this calculator works
Eligibility rules are based on the latest published scheme guidance from gov.uk and Ofgem (the BUS administrator). The calculator applies the documented criteria: ownership type, income band, benefit receipt and current EPC. Where schemes interact, we sum the maximum contributions. Scheme amounts shown are typical caps — actual awards depend on the obligated supplier (for ECO4/GBIS) and the installer's specific quote.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get more than one grant?
Yes — schemes are stackable. A low-income household can take ECO4 for the heat pump and GBIS for insulation in the same project, plus 0% VAT on materials. The BUS cannot be combined with ECO4 for the same heat pump but can run alongside ECO4 insulation work.
What benefits qualify for ECO4?
Universal Credit, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, Income Support, JSA (income-based), ESA (income-related), Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit (subject to income limits), Warm Home Discount Core Group 1, and Housing Benefit. The full list is on the Ofgem ECO4 page.
How do I apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
You don't apply directly — your MCS-certified heat pump installer applies on your behalf and discounts the £7,500 from your invoice. Choose an installer first via mcscertified.com, then they handle the paperwork.
Is the Warm Home Discount automatic?
For most eligible households on Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, yes — it's applied automatically by your supplier. Other benefit recipients may need to apply via their supplier each year.
When does 0% VAT end?
The 0% VAT rate on energy-saving materials and installation is currently legislated to run until 31 March 2027. After that the rate is expected to revert to 5% (the previous reduced rate).
