Lidl will sell a 300-watt plug-in solar panel for £400 from 1 October. That is less than a tenth of the cost of a full rooftop array, and about the same as a mid-range tumble dryer. Also: the panel weighs 18 kg. Balcony railings must be rated for that load. Lidl does not supply load-tested brackets. If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease – some prohibit anything attached to external walls or balconies.
