That is down from around £9,000 in 2020, according to Energy Saving Trust data. The 0% VAT on energy-saving materials, introduced in 2022 and extended through March 2027, shaves another £200-£300 off the bill.
Annual electricity generation for a south-facing 4 kW system in the Midlands or southern England is roughly 3,800 kWh. With the current price cap at 24.5p per kWh, that means avoided purchases of about £930 a year if you use all the power.
